A doctor at Dharamgarh Sub-Divisional Hospital in Kalahandi district has courted a massive controversy after reportedly thrashing a man stated to be a patient admitted at the medical.
The entire act which was probably shot through a mobile camera came to the limelight after a video of the incident went viral on social media platforms.
In the video, the doctor identified as Sailesh Kumar Dora, wearing a blue t-shirt and a quarter pants was seen landing punches and kicks on the hapless patient despite resistance by the on-duty security guards.
What is more shocking that Dora could also be seen chasing and thrashing the patient with wooden stick while also passing serious casteist remarks against him.
Reportedly, the patient, a resident of Dharamgarh area, had come to the hospital with the complaint of several stomach ache. The physicians at the hospital examined and prescribed him some medicines. The patient took the pills and rested in the hospital premises but his stomach ache did not subside as he had expected.
Concerned, the patient went to Dora to seek answers on why his pain continued even after taking the medicines, but the on-duty security guard explained him the doctor had gone to the washroom.
When Dora arrived to see the patient wriggling in pain, a tense encounter ensued between the two. The altercation soon worsened as the doctor picked up a wooden stick before beating the patient black and blue.
After the incident, Dora and the patient lodged two separate FIRs against each other at the local police station.
While Dora has mentioned in his complaint that he thrashed the patient in order to defend himself, the latter along with his family members and many locals of Dharamgarh have resorted to block the nearby NH-130 demanding strict legal action against the irresponsible doctor.
Police officials have been deployed at the spot to maintain law and order situation. Dharamgarh Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dhiraj Kumar Chopdar also tried to pacify the agitating people.
Investigation into the case is underway and action will be taken based on the findings from the probe, said Dhiraj Kumar, DSP.
