A case has been registered against BJD organisational secretary Pranab Prakash Das and deputy chairperson of State planning board Sanjay Das Burma for allegedly misbehaving with some SC/ST people during the inauguration of Krushak Suchana Kendra in February 2021.

According to sources, the Nabarangpur police has registered the case under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 143, 323, 354, 149 and section 3(1) (R) of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act following orders from Nabarangpur Sessions Judge.

Reports said, the complainant and BJP leader Gauri Shankar Majhi had moved court alleging humiliation by the BJD leaders and no registration of FIR despite seeking intervention of the local Superintendent of Police.

As per the allegation by the complainant, both Sanjay Das Burma and Pranab Prakash Das had visited Nabarangpur in February 2021 for inaugurating Krushank Sochna Kendra. Several farmers along with BJP and Congress activists were staging a demonstration over several issues when they were allegedly misbehaved and manhandled.

“We along with several farmers had gone to meet Sanjay Das Burma seeking an answer over non-lifting of 90,000 quintals of paddy. Instead of hearing our grievances, Sanjay Das Burma misbehaved and humiliated us along with Pranab Prakash Das. Though we had lodged a complaint, no FIR was registered,” said Majhi.

Majhi further said that despite approaching the SP, no action was taken in this regard. “Only after the court’s intervention, FIR was registered against the two leaders on last Saturday. We hope that justice will be delivered,” he added.

The BJD is however yet to issue any statement regarding the development.
