The Comptroller & Auditor General of India (CAG) will conduct the natural resources accounting (NRA) in Odisha and will look into the expenditure incurred on the extraction of natural resources from the mines in the State, informed CAG Girish Chandra Murmu on Monday.
The CAG will audit the natural resources available in the mines and whether the deposit extracted from the mines are profitable for the State.
Besides, the CAG will also audit the Panchayati Raj Institutions which will help in the real time audit of the local bodies in the State, he said.
Speaking at the inauguration of the new office building of the Principal Accountant General at Keshari Nagar in Bhubaneswar, CAG Murmu said, “The CAG will account the natural resources present in the State and audit its value, expenditure done in its development and profit and loss incurred through the natural resources. This has started on pilot basis,” added Murmu.
“Centre sanctions huge funds to the State for various welfare schemes and these schemes are implemented through the local bodies. Therefore, an audit by the CAG would help detect anomalies and suggest rectification in the same. This will help in real time audit,” said Murmu.
