Blame Game Over Odisha Assembly Stalemate: Fixing Between BJD & Congress, Alleges BJP The Odisha Assembly on Friday witnessed uproarious scenes when the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress tried to corner the State government over a string of important issues rocking the State. The pandemonium made Speaker SN Patro adjourn the House till 4 pm.
The Congress alleged that the main Opposition in the House, the BJP is not focused in its stand and the party members are raising multiple issues. “The BJP members had raised the farmers’ issue yesterday and today they brought in the law and order situation in the House,” alleged Narasingha Mishra, leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP).

Mishra said, “The party had brought an adjournment motion yesterday over the OSSC issue. The moment I made the demand for a discussion on the matter by suspending the Zero Hour, the Speaker adjourned the proceedings till 4 pm.”
Mishra said that the main Opposition party, BJP, is unable to decide its course of action in the House. “Today, they brought the adjournment motion on law and order. As per norms, the notice for adjournment motion given a day before need to be discussed in the House today,” said Mishra.
On the other hand, the Opposition Chief Whip Mohan Majhi alleged fixing between the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and the Congress. He said since the government would have landed in trouble over the Mahanga double murder and law and order situation, the Congress party preferred to stall the proceedings by raking up the issue of the alleged corruption in the Odisha State Staff Selection Commission (OSSC).
Majhi accused the Speaker of ‘partiality’ in conducting the House in order to shield the government. Majhi said, “The Assembly could not function as both BJD and Congress have joined hands to disrupt the proceedings. Yesterday, we had raised the OSSC issue and today we wanted to discuss the deteriorating law and order situation.
The House proceedings could not be carried out for a minute today. This clearly shows the match has been fixed between BJD and the Congress.”
Responding to the accusations, Government Chief Whip Pramila Mallick said, “There are several issues like the Covid situation, issues concerning farmers and drought situation. Instead of discussing important issues, the Opposition parties are trying to bring petty criminal matters and trying to kill the precious time of the Assembly. People are watching all these as they have sent us here to discuss important issues.”
