A minor boy has died allegedly after eating a lollipop at Dimbirikholi village in Gajapati district. The deceased has been identified as Baikuntha Sabar (8).
As per initial reports, the boy was offered a lollipop by a person, who runs a shop in the village. Mystery shrouds the entire incident as the shop owner offered the lollipop to the boy after calling him to his house.
The family members of the deceased said that their son was in good health. However, his condition deteriorated hours after eating the lollipop.
As the lollipop did not stuck in boy's throat, it is suspected that the candy was harmful and it could have resulted in the tragic incident. However, the exact reason behind the boy's death is still unclear. Police have seized the candy and further investigation in connection with the incident is on.

"There was no fever and my son was playing throughout the day. However, his condition deteriorated soon after eating the lollipop. We suspect some foul play as the shop owner could have given the lollipop at his shop instead at his house," said Pramila, deceased boy's mother.
Prashant Nisika, the Inspector-in-charge of Mohana police station said, "We have started an investigation. We have sent the body to Berhampur for autopsy. Nobody has been detained and further investigation is underway."
