In a major development, the Odisha government on Monday announced to provide homestead land to the families who had been displaced for the Hirakud Dam project.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik made the announcement on the occasion of distribution of BSKY smart health cards programme held virtually.
As per official sources, the decision will benefit around 2,000 families who were earlier displaced for the Hirakud Dam project in the State. “The Odisha government will provide homestead land to nearly, 2000 families displayed for the Hirakud project. The decision will resolve the long standing issue of these families,” said Patnaik in a video message.
Patnaik also launched the distribution of BSKY Health Cards in Jharsuguda district. Around 1.15 lakh people in the district will benefit from the health care scheme. The Chief Minister also inaugurated several welfare projects worth Rs 144 crore and laid foundation stones for various projects in the district worth Rs 153 crore.
Two water treatment plants for Jharsuguda and Brajarajnagar were also inaugurated on the occasion. Already projects worth Rs 618 crore are being undertaken to provide safe and potable drinking water facilities to the people in all villages of Jharsuguda district. The projects, which will benefit 1.22 lakh households, have been targeted to be completed by June 2022.
The construction work for the 100-bedded cardiac care hospital is expected to completed soon in Jharsuguda. 50 per cent of its bed capacity earmarked for providing free treatment to poor patients, sources said.
