Online gaming turned too much for a youth of Manapur village under Kendrapara’s Aul police limits when he allegedly hanged himself after losing Rs 2000 in the game.
The deceased has been identified as Ashis Das, a science graduate who has been staying with his family since two years after completion of his graduation.
The tragic incident came to the fore after the body of the deceased was found hanging in his house on Tuesday with a suicide note addressed to his mother. As per the suicide note, he ended his life after losing Rs 10,000 in online gaming.
The Aul police rushed to the spot after receiving information about the body and launched a probe as the actual reason of his suicide is yet to be ascertained.
Speaking to reporters, the uncle of the deceased, Rajkishore Das said, “Nobody was home last night. His parents had gone to Cuttack. When I knocked on his door this morning, he never replied. I called my neighbours and broke open the door to find his body hanging from the fan.”
“He has left a note addressing his mother that he ended his life after losing money in the online game,” he added.
A similar incident occurred on Monday in Jagatsinghpur when a 25-year-old Debendra Parida from Bhuasuni village under Balikuda police limits committed suicide after allegedly losing over Rs 1 lakh in an online game.
Earlier, a Class 9 student of Adarsha Vidyalaya in Keonjhar district, allegedly died by suicide after his mother restricted him from playing games on mobile phone in September last year.
As per reports, the boy lost temper after he was stopped by his mother from playing games. In a fit of rage the boy allegedly went the roof of his house and later hanged himself with the help of a towel.
