A 12-year-old girl was rescued from the house of a retired Collector from IRC Village, Bhubaneswar on Monday where she was allegedly engaged as a domestic help.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Childline rescued the minor girl with the help of Nayapalli police. She will be produced before Child Welfare Committee (CWC).
According to sources, the minor girl was allegedly trafficked from her village in Berhampur in Ganjam district in November 2020 and engaged in domestic work at the residence of the retired Collector.

When the girl was trafficked, she was studying in Class- V in a school. Her father is a rickshaw puller and mother works as a domestic help.
It was learnt that son of the house owner works as a Professor at the National Law University, Hyderabad while his daughter-in-law runs an English Medium school for children at IRC Village.
Meanwhile, engaging of the minor girlas maid by such affluent people has raised serious questions.
Benudhar Senapati, Director Childline, said, “Following information that the poverty-stricken girl was trafficked from Berhampur and engaged as a domestic help, the Childline team with the help of Nayapalli police rescued the girl. The owner of the house from where the girl was rescued was a retired collector who served in Ganjam. It is really unfortunate that those who are supposed to safeguard the rights of the children are exploiting them.”
The reaction of the retired collector could not be obtained.
