Jajpur: A youth was arrested for allegedly raping a class V student in Jajpur district, police said on Sunday.
The accused identified as Sisir Kumar Sabat (24) was held yesterday from Singada-Khandarpur village after the victim's father filed a complaint.
According to the FIR, Sisir had lured the minor girl on the pretext of giving her berry while she was playing on Thursday and allegedly raped her at a lonely place in the village.
After the crime, Sisir had threatened the girl with dire consequence if she disclosed it to anybody.
"The girl's family had initially approached the village committee for justice soon after the incident. As the committee sat over the issue for two days, they lodged a complaint with us," said a senior police officer adding police swung into action and nabbed the culprit.
"We have arrested the accused and conducted medical examination on the victim and the accused at the district head quarters hospital," said P C Pattayat, officer-in-charge of Panikoili police station.
