Kanpur: Enraged over his daughter marrying her lover, a man allegedly fired at the couple, injuring them. Deepchand and Beenu, residents of Bedhnu area here, had eloped in July this year and later had a court marriage.
Beenu`s father Vijay Kumar, who was against the alliance, had filed a case of abduction against Deepchand, a police spokesman said. The couple, who were on their way to Allahabad High Court to attend the proceedings in the case, were waiting to board a bus when Kumar along with his associates arrived in a van and opened fire at them, he said.
The couple tried to run but received bullet injuries and were admitted to hospital. The assailants escaped after the attack. While Kumar is an affluent farmer, Deepchand runs a general store. A case has been registered and a manhunt has been launched for the attackers, police said.
