Malkangiri: A man was sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment for killing his wife last year in Malkangiri district.
Additional Distric Judge Ajit Mohanty, while convicting Sukura Beti yesterday for killing his wife Bimala at his house in Malkangiri police station area, also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000/-.
In case of inability to pay the fine amount, the man would have to undergo additional jail term of one year.
According to prosecution, Sukura hit his wife on her head with a piece of wood in July, 2010 following an altercation after he returned home after working in the field and asked for food.
As Bimala died in the incident, her sister lodged a complaint with the police and Sukura was arrested.
