Man sentenced for rape

Pronouncing the judgment on Tuesday, Additional Sessions Judge Debjani Das also imposed Rs 5,000 fine on the convict Debasis Jena of Begunia village under Basta police station.

In case of non-payment of the fine amount, the convict would have to undergo additional jail term for three months. The court also awarded three years imprisonment and fine of Rs 5000 to three friends of Debasis for help committing the crime.

According to prosecution, on August 5, 2009 while the girl was traveling by a bus Debasis and three of his friends had told her that her father`s health condition turned serious and she should immediately reach home.

Debasis took the girl in his motor-cycle and confined her in a lonely place and raped her there. The victim lodged a complaint with the local police after she was rescued by some of her relatives.
