Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a government employee committed suicide by jumping from the eighth floor of Heads of Department Building here on Monday morning, police informed today. The deceased has been identified as Harihar Behera, a resident of Jagamara area in state capital.
 
Eyewitness accounts said, they heard something falling on the ground from the building at around 10:45 am today. When they rushed to the spot, they found Behera lying dead in a pool of blood.
 
“We were chatting among ourselves and suddenly heard someone falling on to the ground. We then rushed to the spot and found a man lying dead in a pool of blood,” eyewitness Alok Pattnaik said.
 
“I was in the eighth floor, then I came to the first floor of the building and tried to see the person through the window. I could not recognize as he was not known to me. Later, police came and took the body from the spot,” lift operator Balaram Matha said.
 
According to police, Harihar was working as a stenographer in DGRT office under Department of Labour Ministry under central government.
 
The police suspect that Behera had come to the building only with an intention to end his life as he was mentally disturbed for many days. However, the reason behind the suicide is yet to be ascertained.
