Jagatsinghpur: The Paradip police will take industrialist Mahimananda Mishra on a four-day remand from January 4 in connection with the murder of Mahendra Swain, general manager of Seaways Shipping and Logistics Ltd (SSLL).
Police informed this to media after the JMFC court confirmed the dates.

Mishra and his aide Basant Bal were scheduled to be on police remand from today for interrogations. But looking at his ill health, for which he was admitted to Jagatsinghpur district headquarters hospital on Tuesday night, police sought to extend the remand dates.

The court on Thursday allowed the police to take Mishra on remand from 1 January.

Earlier in the day, Mishra was taken back to the Samagol jail in Jagatsinghpur district from the hospital. On Tuesday night, both Mishra and Bal were admitted to different hospitals after their health worsened. Bal had been shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

In a related development, the police have shifted Rakesh Choubey, the prime accused in Swain’s murder to Ali Pingal jail in the district to avoid obstruction in investigation.
