Mumbai: Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan has expressed grief over the demise of senior Congress leader Vasant Sathe, describing him as "a dedicated Congress leader and a veteran Parliamentarian."

In a condolence message, the Governor, said, "Sathe was a dedicated Congress leader and a veteran Parliamentarian.

As Member of Parliament from Vidarbha, he lent his voice to raise the problems of development of the region with great vehemence."

"Sathe had a memorable stint as Minister of Information and Broadcasting during which he took a number of decisions to make television a preferred medium of communication and entertainment in the country," he said.

In his demise, Maharashtra has lost an astute leader who dominated the national polity during an important period, the Governor said.
