Laptop theft racket busted in temple city

Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate police on Monday, with the arrest of two, claimed to have busted a laptop robbery gang here.
The duo has been identified as Jagannath Beria and his aide Manoj Singh. The police have recovered as many as 16 laptops from their possession.
Beria, an electrical and electronics engineering student at city-based Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management College, hails from Bargrah district. An innocent looking Beria used to befriend other engineering students. After gaining their trust, it was easier for Jagannath to steal the laptops from them.
The duo would, later, sell the laptops at throwaway price to others.
“Two persons have been arrested in laptops robbery case. Beria who is an engineering student never came under the suspicion as he appeared innocent to everyone. He used to befriend students of other colleges and later steal their laptops. We have also apprehended one Manoj Singh, Beria’s partner in the crime,” DCP Himansu Lal said.
As per reports, more than 70 cases of laptop robbery are registered in various police stations of the city. With arrest of Jagannath, police are hopeful of netting more persons involved in the racket.
