Ketamine drug worth Rs 25 lakh seized in Sangli

Sangli (Maharashtra): Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized 80 kilograms of ketamine drug, worth Rs 25 lakh from Kumud Drugs factory at Kupwad MIDC here, officials said.

The stock was seized during a raid on Sunday as the drug was manufactured illegally, they added.

According to DRI officials, Kumud Drugs has a licence to produce ketamine, however, the manufacturers had illegally increased its production to supply it to overseas markets. The company had also reportedly smuggled Mephedrone drug to countries where it is banned, they said.

Earlier, the DRI had arrested the Managing Director of Kumud Drugs Abhijit Konduskar for the alleged illegal manufacturing and trading of psychotropic substances.

Company general manager Nilesh Mehta, employee Sandeep Ahire and the Indian agent of UK-based buyer Sean Jayantilal Kothari had also been also arrested and were booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS), the DRI officials said.
