Kerala wants NIA to probe calls from jails

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is likely to seek a probe by the National Investigation Agency into the use of mobile phones by prisoners lodged in state jails, to ascertain whether some of them had any terror links.

The state home department is expected to write to the Centre in this regard, based on a
report submitted to the state government by additional director general of police(prison), Alexander Jacob, official sources said.

A large number of mobile phones had been seized from prisons during searches conducted by the authorities recently. The probe by the state agencies had thoroughly examined some of these phones and it was found calls had made even to foreign countries, sources said.
