Bhubaneswar: JSW Steel has expressed interest in investinh Rs 50,000 crore to set up a steel plant in Odisha. This was announced by company CMD Sajjan Jindal after meeting chief minister Naveen Patnaik at the Odisha Investors’ Meet in Bengaluru on Friday.

“The capacity of the steel plant will be 10 MTs. Besides, we have proposed to set up a slurry pipeline at an initial investment of Rs 1200-1500 crore,” Jindal told OTV after the meet.

Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC), a Navratna public sector undertaking (PSU), had evinced its desire to invest Rs 25,000 crore in Odisha yesterday.

The company said it has plans to build a thermal power plant, a 500 MW solar power plant and a coal mining processing plant in the eastern State.

On the first day of the meet, Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL), another central PSU, had also expressed interest to invest Rs 2,000 crore on a solar plant in Bolangir.

The Odisha government is organising the meet in an attempt to encourage investments in sectors like manufacturing, IT, electronics, petrochemicals, food processing and tourism.
