In the backdrop of the recent protest by teachers under the aegis of Trained Unemployed Teachers Association (OSSTET Qualified (PET, Hindi and Sanskrit) in the State Capital, the Odisha government on Tuesday clarified that already the process is underway to fill over 11,000 teachers’ posts in the State.
School and Mass Education Minister, Samir Ranjan Dash on Tuesday said that around 11,450 vacancies in teachers’ posts will be filled as per the instructions of the State government.
According to Dash, around 4, 619 posts will be filled up in the first phase.

The School and Mass Education Minister further said that out of the total 4,619 posts, 2,055 posts of Hindi teachers, 1304 in Sankrit and 1260 PET teachers will be filled up. A detailed advertisement notification in this regard will be published on August 23, 2021.
While 6065 TGT and Telegu teachers’ posts will be filed up in the second phase, around 940 Classical and Hindi teachers' posts will be filled in the third phase of the recruitment drive.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Directorate of Secondary Education had earlier announced to have started a process in this regard.
The last recruitment of Hindi, Sanskrit and Physical Education Teachers was conducted in 2016. The recruitment of Trained Graduate Teachers was held in 2019-20 in which only 1300 teachers were engaged against 2740 advertised vacancies. On August 6, hundreds of teachers had staged a protest by kneeling down on the Gandhi Marg in Bhubaneswar while touching their ears. They tried to convey the message of their unemployment status despite clearing the requisite tests and qualifications as required by the State government.
