Ghaziabad: A 20-year-old girl was set on fire in Kavinagar area of the district allegedly by a spurned youth whose marriage proposal she refused, police said on Wednesday.
The girl had been staying at her elder sister`s home since a few days, they said, adding that the youth was known to her as her sister`s brother-in-law. He took the girl to a room and proposed marriage, they said, adding that he poured petrol on her when she rejected.
The sister, who was busy with some work in the house, alerted other family members after the incident took place and the victim was rushed to a local hospital.
She is undergoing treatment there with severe burn injuries, they said. The youth is yet to be arrested, they added.
