I have full faith in PM, says Trivedi

New Delhi: Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi, whose fate hangs in balance, today maintained his decision on the fare hike was in the best interest of the nation and he has full faith in the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

"The country and I have full faith in the PM. I will do and have done what`s in the best interest of the nation and the Indian Railways," Trivedi said here. Trivedi earned the wrath of his party chief Mamata Banerjee for increasing passenger fares in the rail budget for 2012-13.

While Mamata wrote to the PM on March 14 seeking Trivedi`s dismissal from the cabinet and replacing him by Union Minister of State for Shipping and her trusted aide Mukul Roy, the PM had spoken to the Trinamool chief yesterday on the issue. Trivedi, who had attended the Lok Sabha Question Hour yesterday, also participated the cabinet meeting today.
