Huge cache of explosives seized in Jajpur

Jajpur: A huge cache of illegal explosives, purportedly meant for stone quarry blasts, was recovered from two persons in Jajpur district on Sunday, police here said.

The seizures, which included 450 kg ammonium nitrate, 200 gelatine sticks, 450 detonators, 100 fuse wires and a coil of explosive wires, were made at Jogada and Ramachandrapur under Dharmasala police station, they said.

Akshyay Sahu and Rabindra Parida were arrested for illegally possessing the materials and selling them to stone quarry owners without valid license, said officials.

While Sahu stored the materials, Parida sold the explosives to different stone quarries, they added.

However, inspector-in-charge Subhendu Kumar Sinha ruled out the duo`s link with ultras in the Maoist-prone district.

"Initially we thought the explosives were meant for Maoist activities. But on inquiry their link with Maoists was not established," he said.
