Bhubaneswar: The Dhenkanal police on Monday arrested two accused in connection with Hindol gang rape and murder case.

The two accused have been identified as Babula Dehury and Chaitanya Mahalik.

Earlier the incident took place on June 21, when the woman identified as Gambari Padhan (22), a honey-collector was gangraped and brutally murdered at Nuakote village under Hindol police limits.

The incident happened in front of the eyes of her husband and one-year-old son.

According to reports, Gambari Padhan and her husband Bipra were returning home after selling honey in a market when two men stopped them near Nuakote village and demanded money.

According to reports, there was a war of words after which the couple refused to pay heed to their demands. However, the culprits still managed to snatch Rs 500 from them and raped the young woman.

The husband`s effort to save his wife failed as he was also physically assaulted and managed to escape with their son. The accused later murdered her and disposed to the body.

Later Bipra had lodged an FIR with Hindol police on Jun 22.
