In a unique bid to spread awareness amid the rising cases of dengue, residents of Bhubaneswar came together for a new concept, ‘yoga inside mosquito net’. The unique concept emphasises the use of mosquito nets to avoid dengue and adopting yoga to stay fit in day-to-day life.

As part of the programme, the organisers performed yoga inside a huge mosquito net at Madhusudan Park, Unit-VIII area in Bhubaneswar on Sunday. This is not just a single-day programme. Every day participants come together and perform yoga from morning 5 am to 9 am.

“I come to this park for morning exercise. Last September, I was affected by dengue and this year two of my friends are battling the deadly disease. All of you know that at least 4000 people were affected by dengue last year, as per data. This year too, hundreds have been affected,” said Ashok Baral, the man who came up with the unique concept.

“So, this is a small effort to spread awareness among the people to use mosquito nets. We want to spread a message on the need for both the mosquito net and also yoga. Usually, our yoga class starts at around 5 am in the morning and continues till 9 am,” he added.

“This is a small effort on our part to spread awareness about the deadly dengue virus due to mosquito bites. No spray, all-out or mosquito coils will be able to prevent dengue. So, it is best to use mosquito net while sleeping and add yoga in our day-to-day lives,” said another participant.
