The Covid pandemic has taught people of the world many lessons most notably the urgent need to inculcate healthy lifestyle habits to steer clear of the health crisis posed by Cardiovascular diseases. As the globe observes World Heart Day, experts in the health sector have urged people to adopt digital health to reduce risk of falling into heart ailments.
World Heart Day is celebrated every year on 29 September. It is organized by World Heart Federation to raise awareness about CVD.
According to the official website of World Heart Federation, CVD is accountable for nearly half of all non-communicable diseases (NCD) deaths making it the world’s number one killer.
This year, the theme for World Heart Day is 'Use Heart To Connect' which aims to highlight the power of digital health to improve awareness, prevention and management of CVD globally.
In Odisha, several awareness campaigns and fitness activities have been organised today to celebrate World Heart Day this year.
The CARE Hospitals, one of the biggest private healthcare chain in the country, organised massive awareness campaigns, cyclothon in Bhubaneswar, walkathon in Rourkela, and another awareness in Berhampur to mark the occasion.
Attending the cyclothon event in the Smart City Bhubaneswar, health experts stressed on enhancing the use of smart technologies like digital medium to make more and more people aware about heart diseases. They also urged people to adopt healthy active lifestyle to prevent the risk of CVDs.
OTV Managing Director Jagi Mangat Panda flagged off the cyclothon event in the State capital as the Chief Guest. The cyclothon traversed through Chandrasekharpur, Nalco square, Acharya Vihar, Biju Patnaik International Airport and Ganganagar areas.
In Steel City Rourkela, a 2km long walkathon was also organised from Koelnagar area.
