A shocking apathy came to light at Balasore Medical when it was found that the unidentified dead bodies of the patients have been dumped in a small room near the postmortem center.
The apathy by the medical authorities has evoked a strong reaction among the local people.
According to reports, as many as five corpses were recently found piled up one above the other in a small room of the hospital and the stinking smell of those mutilated bodies is unbearable.
Locals alleged that it was sheer apathy and disrespect to the dead bodies by the medical authorities.

"The bodies of the persons have not been identified. Proper honour should be given to the corpses and arrangement should be in place for the cremation. Dumping those bodies inside a hospital and allowing those to decompose is unhygienic for the patients and their attendants," said a local resident.
On the other hand, the medical authorities are of the opinion that they are forced to keep the bodies in a room as the local police administration is finding it difficult to give the contract to the Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) given the current Covid-19 situation.
"Generally we preserve the unclaimed dead bodies for 96 hours before those were disposed of. It is the duty of the police administration to give the responsibility of cremation to the NGOs. We have talked with the local police administration about the cremation of the bodies. Hopefully, the bodies will be disposed of soon," said Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Mrutunjay Mishra.
However, the IOC of Balasore police station said the bodies couldn't be cremated because of the pending dues.
"The municipality was disposing of the bodies earlier. They are not doing their duties anymore due to pending dues," said Bijay Kumar Nayak, IOC of Balasore police station.
