The Odisha government has revised the administrative approval for the construction of much-awaited cancer hospital in Bargarh district.
State Health Department has issued a new directive in this regard mentioning that Revised Administrative Approval is hereby accorded for "Construction of G+5 Cancer Care Centre at Bargarh" with an estimated cost of Rs.90.27 Crore.
In doing so, the government has effectively cancelled an earlier indicative administrative approval for Rs.10.49 core of expenditure on building the hospital.
Sources said the Health Department has also assured to allocate an additional budget of Rs 30 crore for procurement of medical equipment.

As per the building plan of the proposed cancer hospital, its building will be composed of five floors spread across an area of 136508.79 sq feet. Various special units of the hospital like radiation therapy, medical oncology will be placed in designated floors as mentioned in the chart under.
The expenditure for the project will be charged from the Odisha Comprehensive Cancer Care Plan. The project is to be completed within the stipulated period to avoid cost and time overrun, the Health department mentioned in its letter.
All codal procedure and statutory instruction of Govt. as well as of the Health Department in this regard shall be scrupulously followed. Revised technical sanction of the competent authority shall be ensured before inviting tender for the work.
Similarly, guidelines relating to implementation of GST issued by FD shall be followed and norms issued vide FD OM No.37323 dated 30.11.2018 for engagement of consultant shall be followed.
The establishment of a special cancer hospital in western Odisha has been a long-pending demand of the people from the region. Looking at the urgency of the people, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had announced that a cancer hospital would come in Bargarh earlier this year.
The State Health Department also issued an estimate for the project amount to over Rs 10 crore, however, the development triggered backlash from the public who demanded that a fully-integrated cancer hospital should only be set up in Bargarh.
