After unleashing terror in Sundargarh’s Rourkela, diarrhoea has reared its ugly head in Bishnupur village under Tigiria Police limits of Cuttack district. More than 15 people in the village are reportedly infected by the water-borne disease.
For the last two days, the residents of Mundia Sahi of Bishnupur village have been complaining of vomiting and loose motions. The infected persons have been admitted to Athagarh sub-divisional hospital and Tigiria Community Health Centre. Of the ten patients undergoing treatment at Athagarh sub-divisional hospital, two have been shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as their conditions deteriorated.
Meanwhile, the use of water from an open well is said to be the reason behind the outbreak. On being informed, a team from the Health Department visited the village and took stock of the situation. They treated the water of the well with bleaching powder and asked the villagers not to use its water. They even visited all the houses to sensitise the people on how to keep the disease at bay.

‘We suspect the water of the well is contaminated. We are infected after using its water,” said Rohit Kumar Swain, a patient.
