The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced a fresh set of guidelines aimed at fostering healthier food habits among students and staff across India.

As part of this drive, schools have been directed to install “Oil Boards” to spread awareness about the dangers of consuming excessive fats and oils. This move follows an earlier initiative encouraging the installation of “Sugar Boards” to combat rising sugar intake among children.

What Are Oil Boards?

“Oil Boards” will feature posters and digital displays placed in high-visibility areas such as cafeterias, lobbies, and meeting spaces. These boards will provide information on the health risks associated with high-fat diets and encourage the adoption of nutritious food choices within school communities.

Schools to Lead the Way:

•    Besides installing Oil Boards, CBSE suggests that schools turn students into stakeholders in their own health journeys.
•    Schools will install ‘Oil Boards’ across cafeterias, hallways, and common rooms to initiate conversations among students about the impact of high-fat diets.
•    Print health tips and health-conscious messages on school diaries, notebooks, and folders.
•    Offer healthier options in canteens and, campus, focusing mainly on fresh fruits, vegetables, and low-fat alternatives.
•    Promote short exercise breaks and walking paths within school premises, encouraging stair usage and movement breaks.
•    Involve students in creating the boards for hands-on learning experiences, conceptualize, and create health communication content.
•    Reference materials, including videos, are available on FSSAI’s YouTube channel to support these efforts.

A Step Toward Wellness

Through these measures, CBSE hopes to inspire students to embrace mindful eating and active living, paving the way for a healthier future generation.
