Chandigarh: A peacock and Chinkara breeding centre would be set up in the reserve forests area in Rewari district at a cost of Rs 20 crore, Haryana Forest Minister Ajay Singh Yadav said here on Saturday.

He said the Centre would be completed by the end of current financial year.

Yadav said the state government had earmarked Rs 137 crore to promote forestry and wildlife activities in the state during the current financial year.

"An innovative scheme of adopting animals and birds had been launched in the state and I have adopted a black buck so that others get inspiration from this and willingly come forward to adopt animals and birds," he added.

The Minister said an intensive programme of plantation and conservation of soil and water in the Haryana portion of catchment area of Sukhna lake here has also been launched at a cost of Rs over 2.16 crore.
