Khurda: Over 14 people were injured and three critical in a group clash fought over the possession of cashew fields at Dingara village here.

The clash reportedly started when member of a group went to the cashew fields to collect some soil — soon all hell broke loose. 

Niranjan Das, IIC, Begunia PS said, “Two groups of Dingara village fought over cashew fields, in which people from both the groups were attacked. We also seized arrows from the site.”

People injured in the fight were first admitted into Begunia hospital, later were shifted to a hospital in Khurda and those who were critically injured were taken to hospitals in Bhubaneswar.  

Fights over the possession of cashew fields spread over 31 acres and 287 decimal of forest land, has its origin in 1999; when for the first time panchyat decided to auction the cashew fields.

Notably, last year the two groups had a fierce fight over this.

Arun Kumar Biswal, Tahasildar, Begunia said, “Now the situation is under control as section 144 has been clamped in the area to maintain law and order.”
