"When the world is witnessing a stable price regime and food prices are actually going down in most parts, India is experiencing a turbulent price regime because of lack of cohesive policy on part of the UPA," BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said.
He said that the double dose of price hike in one month is "totally unjustified" and is nothing but "loot" of the common man by the government.
Attacking the government, he said that when people were reeling under general price hike of 10 per cent in WPI, the government should have taken remedial measures, but, instead it hiked petrol prices twice.
"In the name of de-control, it is actually the cartel of oil companies which is raising the prices under government protection", he alleged.
Mocking at the government for being in a state of "policy paralysis" and having "lack of political will and vision", Javadekar said, "Sharad Pawar says he is responsible for price rise of only five items. Rahul Gandhi held coalition politics responsible for price rise, DMK feels it is a natural calamity and the PM gives his usual promises of stabilising prices in next two months".
"The BJP demands a revoke on the petrol price hike. We want government to come out with a special action plan to tackle both these issues", he said.
Charging the government with "indulging in profit making", he said the tax earned from revenue from oil companies is nearly Rs 1,76,000 crore... which is the same amount of the 2G spectrum allocation scam. It makes profits but still burdens people".
On the demolition of the 31-storey Adarsh Housing Society building recommended today by the Environment Ministry, the BJP leader said it was important to see what action the government takes on the recommendation.
"We also demand to know what is the outcome of the CBI probe into this scam, which is possibly the biggest in the defence ministry till date. We demand arrest of those involved", Javadekar told reporters.
Asked to comment on senior party leader L K Advani`s latest blog in which he has demanded action on the illegal money stashed away in foreign banks, Javadekar said the party has been raising this issue time and again at various forums.
"When UPA came to power in the second term the Prime Minister assured of taking action on the black money issue within 100 days. Now it has been over 500 days and we are yet to see any action on it", he added.
Asked about the BJP`s opinion on its leader Arun Shourie recent statement that Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee was "one of the best prime ministers we are yet to have", Javadekar said "the best Prime Minister can only be one from NDA".
At a panel discussion in Kolkata two days ago, Shourie described Mukherjee as a man of trust and keystone of Indian governance.
