Ganga comes alive in fashion show
Kolkata: In a unique show of tracing our `Bharatiya` roots, river Ganga came alive on the ramp in a fashion show here last night.
"It is unique, it reminds us of our heritage and past. It makes us more concerned about river protection," famed city model Satarupa Pyne told PTI after the show here.
"For the first time we have focussed on the river`s journey from its origin in Gangotri to the confluence in Bay of Bengal in such a fashion show, exemplifying the river`s varying moods of calm and fury," the designer of the Tanishq show said.
Happy that Kolkata was hosting such a show themed on river, Pyne said, "This city is the perfect place for such events, a blend of tradition and modernity."
Asked if the city could become the `fashion mecca`, Pyne, who had turned up in designer walks of Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Tarun Tahiliani, Jaya Misra and others, said, "We are already. No other city is so much rooted in tradition but having embraced modernity."
Abhishek Rastogi, design manager of Tanishq said, the Ganga collection of the jewllery major, which were showcased on ramp, were themed after our rivers which gelled with the concept of womanhood and gracefulness.
