Gang of highway robbers arrested in north Delhi

New Delhi: A gang of highway robbers, who lured people on the pretext of providing lift in their car and robbed them of their belongings, was on Monday arrested near a bus stand in Wazirabad area here, police said on Monday.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team nabbed gang leader Dev Dutt alias Suraj Goswami (27), his brother Saurab (30) and their accomplices Manoj Kumar (32) and Abhimannu (22).

During interrogation, the accused confessed that they used to befriend lone passengers at bus stops and convince them to take lift from them.

Thereafter, they would overpower the passenger and rob him of cash, jewellery and ATM card, police said.

The accused also admitted that they had robbed a passenger on February 15 and threw him out of the car at Wazirabad, police said.

A Maruti A-Star car used for the crime was also seized, they said.
