Malkangiri: Four persons, including a home guard, were arrested for their alleged involvement in smuggling ganja from Malkangiri district, police said on Tuesday.

The arrests were made following seizure of more than eight quintals of ganja from Mathili area, about 40 km from here on Monday, while the contraband was being smuggled out in a specially designed truck, inspector in-charge of Mathili police station James Samat said.

While two persons, identified as Kailash and Rabindra Jena, were arrested from the checking site, truck owner Bijay and home gurad Srikanta Patra posted in Mathili were taken into custody later, he said.

Further departmental action was being initiated against the home guard, who had allegedly been helping the smugglers, the IIC said.
