Diabetic liver is a very serious problem that can eventually lead to fatal conditions if not taken care of during the initial stages.
On World Diabetes Day know the symptoms of a diabetic liver and how high blood sugar levels can many times damage the liver cells making them store more fat.
Symptoms of diabetic liver
Usually, there are no symptoms when diabetes or high blood sugar level starts affecting the liver. When the situation starts worsening and a person suffers from NAFLD (Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease) a person starts experiencing serious symptoms and in such cases, even medicines do not help much.
But if NAFLD or diabetic liver is diagnosed at a very early stage it can be reversed through proper medications.
Tiredness or fatigue
More often a person with a diabetic liver feels tired very easily. Fatigue is one of the common symptoms of this health condition and should be taken seriously. If you are feeling tired all the time without any physical exertion then you should get your body thoroughly checked by a reputed health expert.
Pain above the right abdomen
If you feel slight and dull aching just above the right abdomen or below the right breast then it is an indication that something is not right with your liver. The pain initially is very dull but sometimes it becomes sharp. Such symptoms should never be ignored.
Hepatosplenomegaly
In this condition, the liver and spleen get enlarged which is a clear sign of liver damage. Such changes can be diagnosed only with proper ultrasound testing and if in the initial stage, medication can provide relief.
Ascites
The build-up of fluid in the abdomen is called Ascites. This occurs only after the advanced diabetic liver stage. More often, at such a stage it is not possible to improve the liver condition.
Jaundice
While not everyone with jaundice has diabetic liver, more often jaundice is one of the symptoms of liver damage. The symptoms include yellowing of eyes and skin and calls for immediate medical intervention.
