With barely days left for Savitri Brata, people across Odisha are now left in a quandary over exorbitant rise in the prices of fruits. As fruits are required by women to conduct various rituals associated with Savitri Brata, the price rise of the commodities has now emerged as a major concern.
The cost of mangoes per kg reached Rs 120 in Bhubaneswar on Thursday. Not only mangoes, the consumers are now paying Rs 50 for a piece of pineapple and Rs 70 for one kg of grapes. Besides, people apprehend a further hike in the prices of fruits in coming days.
Apart from Bhubaneswar, the prices of various fruits have also skyrocketed in other places like Cuttack and Balasore. The price of mangoes in the Millennium city is now hovering between Rs 80 to Rs 90 per kg. However, the price of Litchi has touched Rs 100. Similarly, one will now have to pay Rs 130 for one kg apple and Rs 100 for one kg grapes. Oranges are now being sold at Rs 100 per kg in Cuttack and Rs 100 per dozen of bananas.
In Balasore, people are now buying one dozen of bananas for Rs 80. The prices of apples have reached Rs 140 per kilogram here. “We are now buying pomegranate at a price ranging between Rs 80 to Rs 100 and the prices of mangoes are between Rs 80 to 100,” said a resident of Balasore.
