As Rath Yatra 2025 continues in full swing in Puri, the Odisha Fire Services Department has ensured that all safety and emergency response measures are firmly in place to manage the large gathering of devotees in Puri.
“We are prepared... So far, events are going smoothly. In case there is an emergency situation, we have made all the provisions to respond to it. I think things should go well. If people lose consciousness, then that will be a problem, but we are prepared for that too. We have experts to perform CPR and have equipment like defibrillators and an oxygen pack, a team that can resuscitate. So I believe we can handle such a situation if it arises. We have had only one such case since morning and hope that no more such cases happen,” Fire Services DG Sudhanshu Sarangi on Friday.
He further said, “We have about 1500 people deployed. Out of them, 430 are deployed at the sea beach as life guard; there are also six rapid response teams to respond when people become unconscious. We have teams spraying water at people to bear this heat, and if there is a waterlogging situation, we have 20 high-pressure pumps to remove excess water from the Bada Danda.”
Rapid Response and Lifeguard Teams on Ground
The deployment of over 1,500 personnel, including 430 lifeguards along the Puri beach, is part of a comprehensive safety plan during the ongoing festivities. Six rapid response teams are actively stationed to handle any untoward incidents, ensuring swift medical and rescue assistance if required.
Heat and Water Management Measures in Place
With thousands of devotees braving the humid conditions, the department has also assigned teams to spray water in crowded zones to provide some relief. To address potential waterlogging due to sudden showers or overflow, 20 high-pressure pumps are ready to remove excess water efficiently.
Round-the-Clock Monitoring to Ensure Devotee Safety
The Fire Services Department’s round-the-clock monitoring and deployment reflect a strong commitment to ensuring the smooth and safe conduct of the Rath Yatra, which is one of Odisha’s largest and most revered religious events.
