After 45 days of spirituality and a congregation like no other, with nearly 65 crore pilgrims attending so far, the grand Maha Kumbh Mela will come to an end today with the Maha Shivratri snan.
On 13 January, the spiritual extravaganza began as millions gathered at Prayagraj’s sacred Triveni Sangam, where the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati converge, creating an atmosphere of unparalleled spirituality.
Monumental Arrangements and Tech Innovations
Organizers transformed a 4,000-hectare area into a temporary city complete with 175,000 tents, 150,000 portable toilets, and 30 pontoon bridges.
Advanced AI-powered surveillance systems, featuring thousands of CCTV cameras and facial recognition tools, were deployed to monitor the colossal crowds and prevent mishaps.
Special trains and dedicated helplines ensured smooth transit for the estimated 400 million visitors, blending ancient rituals with modern technology to safeguard every moment.
Viral Moments That Ruled Social Media
Throughout the festival, social media buzzed with viral moments that highlighted both hope and humanity. One touching incident saw a separated family reunited within hours, thanks to state-of-the-art facial recognition technology capturing a young boy’s image among the throng.
Videos of heroic acts like an RPF officer rescuing a five-month-old baby amid chaos spread rapidly.
Others including the likes of an IIT graduate turned yogi and a ‘social media sadhvi’ took the spotlight.

A separate incident on February 15 at New Delhi railway station resulted in several deaths after confusion over train platform changes led to a deadly crush.
