A lot of developmental activities have taken place for the people of India during the tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who has adopted a liberal economic policy, said BJP National Vice-President Baijayant Panda on the second day of the ongoing ‘Raisinia Dialogue’ in New Delhi on Tuesday.
‘Raisinia Dialogue’, a flagship conference on geopolitics and geoeconomics, in the country was kicked off Monday. The seventh edition of the conference - which was launched in 2016 - was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with European Union Commission president Ursula von der Leyen joining as the chief guest.
Harping on liberalism, Panda said, “In India those who called themselves liberals stand for certain views and principles that no other global people could even identify. For example what passes of as secularism in India actually means by law as government control of the places of worship of one religion.”
“You wouldn’t accept that as secular. But this is something we have inherited from colonial times and those in India who call themselves liberals continue to adhere to these principles of secularism which is a distorted interpretation. So, liberalism in its classical form continues to be robust and is under challenge by those who called themselves liberal today,” the senior BJP leader added.
Notably, Raisina Dialogue 2022 will have around 100 sessions with over 210 speakers from 90 countries across the globe.
