The festival lasts for ten days and ends with the immersion of Lord Ganesh's idol.
This year, Ganesh Chaturthi will be observed on Saturday, September 7. The ten-day celebration, Ganesh Utsav, will conclude on Tuesday, September 17, with the immersion of the idol.

The most auspicious time for installing Lord Ganesh's idol and performing Ganesh Puja is during this period.
The best time for the installation (Murthi Sthapana) on September 7 is during the Madhyahna Ganesha Puja Muhurat, which will be from 11:04 AM to 1:35 PM, lasting for 2 hours and 31 minutes.
Ganesh Visarjan (Immersion)
The festival will end with Ganesh Visarjan (immersion) on September 17, marking the farewell to Lord Ganesha.
Why Ganesh Puja is Celebrated for Ten Days
The ten-day Ganesh Utsav has its roots in Hindu mythology. According to the Puranas, the festival celebrates the birth of Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles and the god of wisdom.
It is said that Sage Vyasa invited Lord Ganesha to transcribe the Mahabharata, and Ganesha wrote continuously for ten days.
After completing this task, he bathed in the Saraswati River, inspiring the tradition of celebrating Ganesh Puja for ten days.
Why School Students Celebrate Ganesh Puja
Students celebrate Ganesh Puja in schools and colleges to honour Lord Ganesha, who symbolises wisdom and learning. He is believed to bring good luck, remove obstacles, and help with educational challenges.
By participating in the puja, students not only learn about and respect cultural traditions but also seek blessings for success in their studies.
The celebration often includes making decorations, enjoying special sweets, and engaging in activities that promote learning and community spirit.
