In view of the Durga Puja 2022, the Commissionerate Police on Sunday introduced five more 'Traffic Mobile Patrol' bikes to ensure uninterrupted traffic in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack during the festivity.
On the sidelines of the launch of the initiative today, Twin City Police Commissioner Saumendra Priyadarshi said the Durga Puja this year is going to be grand one after a gap of two years (as affected by Covid pandemic), and hence, a huge gathering of people is expected.
“During the puja, it will be great challenge for police to maintain traffic. So, today, we introduced five more traffic police mobile motorcycles- two for Bhubaneswar and three for Cuttack. We had introduced three such bikes a few days ago for Bhubaneswar,” he said.
It is expected that the motorcycle traffic patrol will be crucial in regulating traffic in Cuttack, the city of '52 Bazar and 53 Gali', said the Commissioner adding that a total of eight such traffic mobile patrol bikes have been introduced so far in the Twin City.
Meanwhile, Priyadarsi reiterated that the anti-drug drive of the police will continue in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack during the puja season.
On Saturday, the Commissionerate Police arrested three persons from Balianta area in the outskirts of Bhubaneswar and seized Rs 40 lakh cash and 400 gm brown sugar from their possession.
Moreover, on Friday, the Commissionerate Police issued instructions to bands, DJ and organisors against use of loud speakers during Durga Puja.
In its guidelines, the Police stated that provisions of Noise Pollution (Regulation & Control) Rules, 2000 and the Supreme Court order restricting sound output of loudspeakers to the extent of 65 decibel, and the Commissioner’s order shall be strictly followed during the Durga Puja festival.
Similarly, all band/ DJ and musical parties using amplifiers along with other musical instruments have been directed to install sound limiters connected to the amplifiers with fixed output of 65 decibel.
