People across Odisha on Sunday celebrated Holi with pomp and grandeur with their friends and relatives amid Covid-19 restrictions. The celebrations in Bhubaneswar appeared to be different as residents dipped in Holi celebrations in a different way.
The residents of an apartment in the city switched to organic or herbal colours this time. Interestingly, the colours were made from various house-hold products and edible items like turmeric, rice and cornflour.
“We all know about the harmful effects of chemical colours. Hence, we decided to turn to organic way to celebrate Holi. We have used neem, turmeric, beetroot, kesar and rose water to prepare the organic colours which are completely safe,” said a resident.
“I always stayed away from Holi colours due to skin allergy. But as the colours were made using natural ingredients, I played Holi with my friends and family members today,” said another local resident.
People across Odisha are turning to eco-friendly ways of celebrating various festivals, including Holi. Many believe that simple steps will be crucial in protecting the environment and at the same time, it can ensure a healthier life. In Bolangir, people played Holi with enthusiasm and danced to the tunes of several folk songs.
"The festival of Holi also symbolises unity and it is the perfect occasion to forget all grudges against each other and mark a new beginning," said a local resident.
