The whole world is eagerly waiting for another celestial event, the second and last lunar eclipse or ‘Chandra Grahan’ today. The moon in its reddish-copper form will be visible from all parts of the country, including Bengaluru.
The eclipse will begin at 2:39pm and the total eclipse will start at 3:46pm. The eclipse will be visible from all places in India only at the time of the moonrise. However, the beginning of the partial and total phase will not be visible.
In Bengaluru, the partially eclipsed full moon will rise at 5:49pm and the partial eclipse can be seen till 6:19pm (IST). Lunar eclipse is also safe to watch through the naked eye or through telescopes.
Meanwhile, the Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium has released the timings and programmes for partial lunar eclipse on November 8, 2022 from 5:49pm to 6:19pm in Bengaluru.
Programmes at the Planetarium:
1. Lecture on Lunar eclipses: - 4:00 to 5:00pm
2. Demonstration of Lunar eclipse model: 3:00 pm to 5:00pm
3. Live streaming of lunar eclipse on taralaya YouTube channel.
4. Question and Answer session for YouTube views during eclipse after 5:00pm
5. Display of lunar eclipse on video wall at JNP.
Worth mentioning, lunar eclipses occur on a full moon day when the Earth comes in between the Sun and the Moon. A total lunar eclipse will occur when the whole Moon comes under the shadow of Earth and the partial lunar eclipse will a part of the Moon comes under the shadow of the Earth.
The next lunar eclipse will be on October 28 in 2023.
