No respite from depression for the states sharing the Bay of Bengal coastline. While one depression has just crossed the north Tamil Nadu, the Bay of Bengal will be hurling another depression or maybe a deep depression at the coastal states in the next 7-8 days time.
As per all leading Met models, a low pressure area will form on and around Nov 14 over the south Andaman seas. After crossing over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the system will intensify to a well-marked low pressure area over the south-central Bay of Bengal on and around Nov 16.
The model forecasts predict the further intensification of the system as it charts a west-northwest direction. The models show the system intensifying into a depression or a deep depression on and around November 17.
However, the depression or deep depression will make landfall in southern Andhra Pradesh in the morning hours on Nov 19. The forecast predicts the system crossing the Andhra Pradesh coasts between Nellore and Prakasham districts.
Model Show
There is complete unanimity among lead weather models over the formation of another intensified system over the south-central Bay of Bengal. Moreover, all models predict the system crossing of the south Andhra Pradesh coasts on and around Nov 19-20.
NCEP-GFS, ECMWF and ACCESS-G3 predict depression or a deep depression crossing the southern Andhra Pradesh coasts in the morning hours on and around Nov 18-19.
Odisha Impact
The predicted intensified system that will hit south Andhra Pradesh may bring rains to as far as Bhubaneswar. The State's Capital is predicted to record rain on Nov 18, 19 and 20.
The NCEF-GFS data reveals light rain in Bhubaneswar on Nov 18 and rainfall in the range of 4mm per 3hour on Nov 19.
If the forecast is to be believed, then the State Capital City may record rain for nearly 4-5 hours on Nov 19. On the day, there is a forecast of accumulated rainfall in the range of 10-11mm in Bhubaneswar.
South Odisha districts will be recording light to moderate rainfall from Nov 17 onwards.
Weekend Forecast
Even as the depression has crossed the Tamil Nadu coasts, many districts in Odisha will witness light rainfall from the evening hours of Nov 12 onwards. The forecast is State may record around 2-5 mm rainfall on coming Saturday, Sunday and till the evening hours on Monday, though it will not be a continuous rainfall.
As far as the State Capital Bhubaneswar is concerned, a very light drizzle on Nov 12 and 13 is predicted. While the skies over the Capital City will remain partly cloudy till 15th Nov. Sun will shine on the horizon from Nov 16 to Nov 18 mid-day.
