Nora Fatehi is now a well-known face in Bollywood. Undoubtedly she is known more for her fabulous dancing than as an actress. But she is slowly picking up pace and may soon get good roles as an actress in Bollywood. Her role in Madgaon Express and now in The Royals has been appreciated. However, it was not easy for this Moroccan-Canadian dancer to gain a foothold in Bollywood.
Nora Fatehi do not have the traditional Hindi features nor was she good at speaking any Indian language when she landed in Mumbai. Even then her hard work and persistence has helped her come this far. In an old interview the actress can be seen reflecting on how the ethnic diversity in India helped her gain an entry in Bollywood.
When Nora Fatehi was told ‘You do not look traditionally Indian’
During the throwback interview, the Saki Saki girl was asked, “You are not an Indian. You do not speak the language as your native mother tongue. You do not look traditionally Indian either. Like where did you start and think I can do this?” In reply, Nora Fatehi said, “First of all, if we speak about the look may be not traditionally Indian but what is traditionally Indian? India is such a big country with different skin tones, different features, and different hair textures that one look is not Indian. We have North Indians that look in a specific way. A lot of them look like me.”

“Then you have South Indians. Their skin colour is different. Their features are different and then you have North Eastern Indians who look different. So I don’t think there is a standard aesthetic to what an Indian would look like," she added. However, Nora Fatehi did agree that there is a standard aesthetic to how a Bollywood actress should look like. She said that the Indian ethnicity is ambiguous and should not be judged. Nora also said that India is a mixture of features and that everyone should celebrate that.
