Freedom of Speech is one of the important rights of citizens living in a democracy. But most of the time, nowadays, this right is misused by social media influencers and even celebrities using vulgar and cheap language publicly. Unfortunately, speaking in abusive terms and making disrespectful statements with sexual undertones has now become the new normal, which is making a terrible impact on the minds of youngsters.
Recently, when Ranveer Allahbadia made a shocking statement on India’s Got Latent, the entire social media was embarrassed. Amid all the uproar, a throwback interview of Aamir Khan in which he tore apart the misuse of so-called freedom of speech has now gone viral.
Violence is verbal and emotional - Aamir Khan
During the interview, the Lagaan actor said, “I completely believe in freedom of speech. No issues. But we have to understand that we all have a certain responsibility. When I heard what was being described to me, I felt it was a very violent event. There was a lot of violence in that event.”
He went on to add that violence is not only physically restricted to throwing shoes at the other. He stressed that violence is verbal as well. The superstar added, “Violence verbal bhi hota hai. Violence emotional bhi hota hai. Jab aap kisika bhi insult kar rahe ho toh aap violence perpetuate kar rahe ho. Aur pacchis galiyan deke aap soch rahe hai ki main impress ho jaunga toh galiyon se impress honi ki meri umar nikal chuki.”
Aamir Khan said that such things are not going to impress him or make him laugh. Instead if anyone wants to make him laugh then he should come up with a good joke that does not hurt anyone. That was what the Laal Singh Chaddha actor said years ago. But what is happening as of now is exactly opposite with abuses and shouting becoming an important of most of the leading content creator’s presentation.
