Renowned actor Vijay Sethupathi is making headlines ahead of the grand theatrical release of his upcoming film, 'Merry Christmas'.

In a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, the versatile actor opened up about a past disappointment, revealing his heartbreak when 'Gully Boy' was chosen over his film 'Super Deluxe' as India's official entry for the Oscars in 2020. 

Sethupathi expressed his belief that there was an element of politics involved in the selection process.

Acknowledging his disappointment during an interaction with fans, Vijay Sethupathi stated, "It's politics. It's not because I was in that film. Even if I am not in that film, I wanted it to go there [Oscars]. Something happened in between, and I don't want to talk about that. It's unnecessary."

In 'Super Deluxe,' Vijay Sethupathi delivered a standout performance, portraying the role of a transperson named Shilpa. Directed by Thiagarajan Kumararaja, the film received acclaim for its unconventional narrative and Sethupathi's compelling portrayal.

On the work front, Vijay Sethupathi is anticipating the release of 'Merry Christmas,' directed by Sriram Raghavan and featuring Katrina Kaif in the lead role. The Tamil-Hindi bilingual is set to hit theatres on January 12.
