There have been many beautiful actresses in our Bollywood industry but there is no one like the evergreen Rekha. Her presence on-screen captivated millions of her fans. Such was Rekha’s charm that once you saw her one movie, you could never miss any! On her birthday, we relook at the list of actors with whom Rekha had a great on-screen chemistry.
Amitabh Bachchan
One of the most popular on-screen couples ever was, the angry young man and the sensual Rekha. The duo achieved fame as a silver screen couple in 1973 with Namak Haraam and in 1976 with Do Anjaane. They have appeared in more than 10 Bollywood movies. These two were seen together in some popular hit movies including Mr Natwarlal, Suhaag and Kasme Vaade. Who could forget Rekha and Amitabh in Silsila. One can’t imagine anyone else doing justice to their respective roles in Silsila which incidentally also had Jaya Bacchan.
Shashi Kapoor
There is no doubt that Rekha and Amitabh Bachchan were the most popular couple on screen at that time, but Shashi Kapoor also had several films with the Khubsoorat actress and their on-screen chemistry was highly appreciated. The powerhouse actors collaborated on a number of hit films, including Suhaag (1979), Do Musafir (1978) and Kali Ghata (1980).
Naseeruddin Shah
Another great performance of Rekha was with Naseeruddin Shah in the movie, “Ijaazat”. The movie's plot centres on a couple who accidentally cross paths at a train station. The waiting room at the railway station is almost a metaphysical interpretation of life where some places and people in life are always in the ‘waiting room’. It is also a poignant and moving tale of a divorce.
Remember the song, “Mera kuchch saamaan, tumhaare paas padaa hai…” ? Well, that’s from this movie.
Vinod Mehra
Late Bollywood actor Vinod Mehra was in news for his relationship with ageless diva Rekha. Their on-screen chemistry used to appear so real that the fans once widely believed that Vinod and Rekha have married each other. They also starred in the “Ghar '', which was very appreciated by the audience.
Farooq Sheikh
Farooq Sheikh and Rekha starred together in the movie “Biwi Ho To Aisi”. Rekha’s effortless acting was on full display in this movie where she plays the role of a homemaker trying to win over a controlling mother-in-law.
Only Rekha could display such a range of pairing, from an angry young man (Amitabh Bacchan) to a commoner played by (Farooq Sheikh).
